HAMPTONS HAUTE BEFORE AND AFTER PART 1

D2 Interieurs takes this West Hampton Retreat to the next level by balancing a mix of modern and organic materials, and infusing bold refreshing colors.

This home is located in Remsenburg, NY which is a residential hamlet approximately 75 miles from mid-town Manhattan in the western portion of the Hamptons. It is a bucolic community that has a main street lined with vintage historic homes with white picket fences, and century old trees. The property as the client bought it was far from welcoming: "One of the challenges of the home was the way that it’s situated on the property, it’s kind of dark," explains Davis.

With the D2 Difference the house was taken from dark to light, and from dated to happy with the use of organic textures and neutral tones - pops of bright color and pattern (like the amazing hand-blocked wallpapers in the entry and dining room) to liven up the space—both literally and figuratively.

ENTRY: In the entry, the room's many themes merge: Color, pattern, and organic shapes and textures.  Designer Denise Davies installed a fresh and organic wall covering called Little Havana Perdido by Paper Mills in the entryway. The rug is a custom D2 Interieurs design. Above the reclaimed oak wood table is a handmade funky pendant light called the Celeste Sphere from Stray Dog Designs. The artwork is by Linda Colletta.

DINING ROOM: A block-print wallpaper, light wood table, and sisal rug lighten up the dining room.  Davies invokes the mood of the ocean with the vibrant and bold floral wall covering by Christopher Farr Cloth, a London based textile design company, the pattern is called La Foret. The homeowner requested a large dining table for entertaining and hosting dinner parties. The table is a custom design by D2 Interieurs. The Clubcu buffet is slatted, reclaimed elm wood in an old grain finish.

LIVING ROOM: In the formal living room Davies kept it casually chic by arranging two slipcovered sofas facing each other to make for easy flow of conversation. The homeowner requested a lot of seating as she loves to entertain and host guests. Davies achieved that by adding two upholstered arm chairs and wicker ottomans covered in a Kari Fisher fabric. The artwork is by Linda Colletta. The french doors open out to the pool in the back.

SUN ROOM: "The client had that furniture and she said let’s get rid of it, and I was like no, let’s keep it, it’s fabulous, and I’ll design around it and make it come alive," recalls Davies. Some reupholstery, fresh throw pillows, and a black-and-white rug to offset the room's bright colors did the trick.

GUEST ROOM: Kelly green and orange make this guest room modern, fun and chic! The turquoise Artichoke lamp is from Stray Dog. Duvet covers are from Jill Sorensen Lifestyle. The artwork is by Christopher Shore. "Because it’s in the Hamptons, I wanted to mix all the elements: metals and organic and color," says Davies. "I feel like that’s what makes a home look really great, and doesn't make it look like the decorator just left the building." “You can’t help but walk into the house and have a happy weekend. It’s like stepping into another time,” says Davies. Design highlights include the entry and the dining room wallpaper which sets the tone for the house. The colors in the house were specifically chosen to bring the outside in.
